That must have been an incredible experience. This village Nozawa Onsen had 13 Onsens, but only 3 suitable for food cooking. The eggs were cooked in a mini Onsen to the side of the main human Onsen. I hope you try them - do post again with the results.
I have checked with my wife to make sure, as we still live within 30 minutes of a number of Onsen, but none of them have a special cooking section, as far as she knows. 🥲
So, I guess we have to give your recipe a shot. I will let you know how it works out.
