I've been eating articokes since I was very little. My mother would steam them and serve with melted butter. I adored scraping the 'meat' from the leaves with my teeth, and then having fun when she would give the center a 'haircut' so I could eat the rest of it. Then in college, my Judo sensei would make Italian stuffed articokes, and serve them chilled. Such good memories. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Hi Connie, lovely to have you on here as well as the judo. (I will reply to your email as soon as I get home as on road at mo) Your mums artichokes sound like heaven. Do you cook them yourself?
Quite simply my favourite ingredient.
Would LOVE to see how you cook them Will. Any top tips?
HI Nik:
yes, I still love them and make them for myself and my husband. He thinks they are a lot of work. One of my all time favorites. :-)
I used to agree with your husband on that, until I found this way, which was so much faster.
What a great post. Our farmers market opens soon, I’m going to keep an eye out for baby artichokes!
Definitely! Just coming into US and UK season
These look gorgeous. And such useful guidance too.
Thank you Kathy, they’re tasty too AND healthy. Total win. Do you grow artichokes?
I did have a couple of plants for a while and they were wonderfully prolific. But eventually the took over and had to go - not enough space.
