I think good writing should be paid for. Long before becoming an Olympian, I was a writer. My first break was thanks to The Sunday Times, who paid me £80.00 to cover a judo tournament. This was 30 years ago. Not a lot, even back then, but have rates moved with the time? I don’t think so. Perhaps, that’s why substack has taken off? Finally, a place where writers are getting paid decently for their words. Long may it last.
